Meet

BARRY PALMER

It's unusual for a New Hampshire-born and bred songwriter to have a country soul, but that's the story with Barry Palmer, who has compiled a compilation of his songs on CD, "Saturday's Child: The Barry Palmer Songbook."
The songs are country, with some tinged with the blues, such as on the title tune, "Saturday's Child" and "Daddy Played the Trumpet."
He also pays homage to his native state with the moving, "To New Hampshire With Love." Some of Nashville's top musicians are featured on the album.
Palmer traveled to Music City in order to get the right  "Nashville Sound" he was looking for, and and he succeeded.
In "real life", Palmer is a retired entertainment editor with a statewide New Hampshire newspaper. He also served 21 years with the U.S. Army, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer.
He comes by his musical ability naturally, as his dad was a musician in the Harry James Orchestra. Although he grew up listening to Big Band music, he fell in love with country music as a child.
"There's something about the honesty in country music that really touched me," says Palmer. "I couldn't seem to get enough of the great artists such as Marty Robbins, Web Pierce, Don Gibson, Ferlin Husky and so many others. I enjoy their music to this day."
Palmer says he was also mesmerized by the "magnificent harmonies" of groups such as The Jordanaires and The Suns of the Pioneers.
"Country music touches the soul and I hope in some way I've been able to do that with some of my songs," Palmer said.
